Mile High (Windy City, #1)

After seeing the negative comments online, Stevie feels sorry for Zanders. She doesn’t like what people are saying about her either, and she worries that she might lose her job. When she discusses the issue with Ryan, he suggests that she get “out of the airline industry” (360) and look for a new job. Stevie admits she has been considering this possibility.

Zanders knocks on the door, interrupting the conversation, and Ryan sees himself out. Stevie immediately notices that Zanders is upset. They start talking about the paparazzi issue, and Zanders says he thinks it would be better if they break up. He doesn’t want to hurt Stevie anymore and cannot jeopardize his career. Stevie protests, but Zanders insists that he is always going to be the same person. Crying, Stevie accuses Zanders of making her fall in love with him. He doesn’t respond and lets himself out.

Stevie is so upset over the breakup that she has trouble focusing at work. On the flight to Seattle, she refuses to engage Zanders in any form of conversation that doesn’t relate to work.

Stevie’s dad surprises her and appears at her Seattle hotel. She opens up about her relationship and breakup with Zanders.
